The Lake Norman Chamber’s Entrepreneur of the year for 2017, Sharon Simpson of Lake Norman CURRENTS will be a special guest speaker THIS THURSDAY, February 23rd from 5:30-7pm at Fox & Hound Birkdale.
Sharon has enjoyed a 40-year career in the newspaper and magazine publishing industry. A native Charlottean, Sharon grew up boating on Lake Norman and has called the lake area home for the past 23 years. As publisher of CURRENTS for the past 8 years, she has represented the magazine’s community spirit through her involvement in the North Mecklenburg Rotary Club (president 1999-2000), the Lake Norman YMCA (board chair 2003-2005) NAWBO, Make-a-Wish Foundation of Central Carolina, and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church (Administrative board chair 2008) As a leader, Sharon has worked with local businesses to expand their market and identify their brand for over 25 years. Her commitment to small business earned CURRENTS Magazine the Small Business of the Year award by the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce in 2013.
In October, 2016, Sharon and her business partner sold the magazine to another local publishing entrepreneur, Macadam Smith of Huntersville. Sharon remains a vital part of CURRENTS as Advertising Director, leading the same team she has led for the past 8 years.
Sharon is committed to the magazine industry and the vital role it plays in excellent community journalism. She and her husband Rick now split their time living in Cornelius and the N. Myrtle Beach enjoying time with their 3 adult children and their two Dachshunds, Barkley and Bailey.
